What is Structured Light?

Structred light is the process of projecting a pattern (usually grids or horizontal bars are used) on to a scene.

The way that these patterns deform when striking surfaces allows vision systems to calculate the depth and surface information of the projects in the scene, as used in structured light 3D depth cameras.

What is Stereo Vision?

Stereo vision is the extraction of 3D information from digital images. By comparing information about a scene from two vantage points, 3D information can be extracted by examining the relative positions of the objects.

The active stereo vision employs a light such as a laser or a structured pattern light to simplify the challenges of distortion, and image rectification reducing the need of pre-processing vs. a passive stereo which requires pre-processing the image obtained.
